Personal fitness is a passion for many in Perth and the area is filled with gyms, fitness centres and numerous opportunities to get out and be active including golf, swimming, yachting and surfing. The area near Rottnest Island is a top draw for surfers and it offers some of the country's best surfing.

Soccer is hugely popular here and the city's main team is Perth Glory, who play at the Perth Oval stadium from March to September. Aussie Rules Football is also a popular draw and the city has two teams in the Australian Football League, the Fremantle Dockers and the West Coast Eagles. Games are played at the Subiaco Oval in the Subiaco district.

Rugby also has a large following in Western Australia. The Perth Western Reds play regularly in the Australian Rugby League at the Subiaco Oval and they compete in the Rugby World Cup and other competitions.
